Connecticut Innovations and BBC Entrepreneurial Training and Consulting Team Up to Provide Intensive Training for SBIR Applicants

Introductory webinar scheduled for interested companies on Wednesday, Feb. 3

Rocky Hill, Conn. – Jan. 26, 2016 – Connecticut Innovations (CI) today announced it has partnered with BBC Entrepreneurial Training and Consulting (BBC) to provide intensified training, webinars and one-on-one strategic sessions for Connecticut companies applying for highly competitive small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) funding. An introductory webinar will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3 from 10 to 11 a.m., to acquaint companies with this new initiative and to provide direction for applicants.

“We are always looking for ways to give Connecticut companies an edge when applying to a very competitive process like SBIR,” said Glendowlyn Thames, director of Small Business Innovation and CTNext at Connecticut Innovations. “BBC Entrepreneurial Training and Consulting has proven to be an invaluable resource to companies looking to secure SBIR grants and we look forward to working with them on this initiative.”

The program will include:

Onsite two-day training workshops conducted by the BBC to set the stage for SBIR expectations and requirements. The first workshop will be offered on Wednesday, Feb. 17 and Thursday, Feb. 18 at Yale University. To learn more, visit
Up to 20 hours of direct access to BBC for proposal review for companies that identify one or more proposal deadlines;
Webinars covering a wide assortment of topics; and
Deep knowledge of each agency, which will help applicants increase their chances of winning Phase I and Phase II awards.

To be eligible, a company must:

Meet all standard federal SBIR requirements;
Be a small Connecticut technology company set up as an S Corp, C Corp or LLC that has never won an SBIR/STTR award or has won a Phase I but was turned down for a Phase II;
Have a majority of the company’s operations based in Connecticut;
Attend a two-day BBC training course;
Complete an application following the training course; and
Provide CI with ongoing feedback for three years regarding application submissions and outcomes.
