Paul R. Pescatello is senior counsel and executive director of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association’s (CBIA) Connecticut Bioscience Growth Council. A highly effective voice for the life sciences, Pescatello’s advocacy focuses on policies that foster the translation of basic research into clinical therapies, recognize the uniquely large investment necessary for effective biopharma research and development, and safeguard intellectual property. Pescatello is also president and CEO of the New England Biotech Association and co-chair of We Work for Health Connecticut.

Pescatello is an attorney with over 25 years of experience as an advocate and counsel for biotechnology, pharmaceutical and banking/venture capital–related interests. As a partner at the law firm Shipman & Goodwin, special counsel to the Governor, and president and CEO of Connecticut United for Research Excellence, Pescatello was responsible for drafting and advancing tax and economic development legislation, conceived by Harvard Business School professor Michael Porter and others, to make Connecticut more hospitable to startup companies, small businesses and entrepreneurialism.

In addition to his public affairs and public policy activities, Pescatello sits on numerous boards, including Connecticut Innovations, the Connecticut Regenerative Medicine Research Fund Advisory Committee and the Task Force to Study Rare Diseases for the Connecticut General Assembly. He also represents several privately held investment partnerships and limited liability companies.

Pescatello received a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. He also holds a B.A. in political economy from Colorado College.
