Student-run agency provides digital media, marketing and communications services to Connecticut Innovations portfolio companies
Rocky Hill, Conn. – May 1, 2017 – Connecticut Innovations (CI) in partnership with the University of Connecticut (UConn) today announced the success of its digital media and design pilot program led by ATION Digital Media Agency. ATION is a student-run agency that provides digital media, marketing and communications services to clients, including those in CI’s portfolio.
Through the partnership, ATION has worked with 11 CI portfolio companies, including Device42, eBrevia, Isoplexis, Diameter Health and SeeClickFix, to name a few. Projects have included animated motion graphics, live filming and producing of promotional and tutorial videos, user experience research, social media analysis and planning, and brand identity and development. Each project was managed by a team of five to six students and supervised by faculty in UConn’s Digital Media and Design Department.
“The partnership with Connecticut Innovations has been a win-win for all parties,” said Tim Hunter, professor and head of the Digital Media and Design Department. “Our Digital Media and Design students are getting hands-on experience creating digital strategies and assets for real Connecticut companies, and the CI portfolio companies receive digital assets that save them significant marketing dollars. Working with Connecticut Innovations’ portfolio companies fits the unique experiential learning we want to be able to provide to our students in Digital Media and Design at both our Storrs and Stamford campuses.”
CI and UConn teamed up four years ago to provide students with real hands-on marketing and digital experience that can be used as portfolio pieces when interviewing. Students in UConn’s Digital Media and Design Department are eligible to work with ATION. The agency is overseen by Phil Dwire and Steve Harper at the Stamford campus, and William Congdon, Timothy Miller and Samantha Olschan at the Storrs campus.
