Rafael A. Santiago is the managing member of Santiago Law Group LLC, a business law firm providing legal counsel, solving problems and delivering value for businesses throughout Connecticut. Santiago maintains an active legal practice in corporate, commercial and financing transactions. He regularly represents both buyers and sellers in structuring, negotiating and documenting sophisticated business acquisition transactions. He also represents institutional lenders and business entities in structuring, negotiating and documenting sophisticated single- and multiple-lender corporate, commercial and real estate financing transactions.

Santiago is an active participant in many professional organizations, including the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section of the Connecticut Bar Association, the Association of Commercial Finance Attorneys, the International Law and Practice and Business Law Section of the American Bar Association, the Business Law Section of the International Bar Association, and the Inter-American Bar Association. He currently serves on the Connecticut Bar Association Standing Committee on Long-Range Planning, the American Bar Association Legal Opportunity Scholarship Committee, and the Latin America Law Initiative Council. He has also served on the American Bar Association Advisory Council on Diversity in the Profession.

Santiago served as the national president of the Hispanic National Bar Association from October 2000 until October 2001. He served on the Board of Governors of the Hispanic National Bar Foundation. Santiago is a founding member and past member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Hispanic Bar Association. He has chaired its Fundraising Committee and is an active participant in the association’s mentoring program.

Santiago is active on the boards of numerous community-based organizations, including Guakia Inc., Old State House Inc. and Beth El Temple of West Hartford Inc. He was appointed in 2000 to the State of Connecticut Advisory Commission on Multicultural Health and currently serves on the Connecticut Commission on Racial and Ethnic Disparity in the Criminal Justice System.

Santiago earned his bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Tufts University. He earned an M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut School of Business Administration and a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Santiago was appointed to the Connecticut Innovations Board of Directors by former Governor M. Jodi Rell.
